Dubbed “Ski Town U.S.A.”, Steamboat
Springs originally was a summer vacation getaway discovered
by visitors as early as 1902 for its natural hot springs.
Modern day Steamboat Springs still boats its fine selection
of hot springs, as well as being known for its world-class
skiing. The tradition began in 1913 when the first Winter
Carnival was held. The carnival is still a yearly event in
February. For those who love rodeo, Steamboat Springs has
a Cowboy Downhill Rodeo in January – cowboys on skis
and snowboards running a slalom course. Steamboat Springs
has been home to over 50 Olympians and hosts many skiing events.
Steamboat Springs is home to the name -registered “Champagne
Powder” – the name given to the snow that falls
in Steamboat Springs.
In summer, the rodeo still reins supreme for the Rainbow Weekend
in July – a hot balloon rodeo and two day Art in the
Park festival. Strings of the Mountains Festival of Music
and a free concert series keeps the mountains resonating throughout
the summer.
Steamboat Springs has kayaking, biking, and hiking plentiful
as the outdoors you have to enjoy it in, along with all the
other adventure sports that are tucked away at every turn
in Colorado.
