Pueblo is situated on the Arkansas River, where
routes 25 and 50 intersect.
One of the newest attractions to Pueblo is the 26-acre Arkansas
Riverwalk urban area, connecting the downtown recreation trails
to the Lake Pueblo State Park. This area is great to enjoy
fishing, cycling, canoeing, and, as in the rest of Colorado,
sightseeing. The Pueblo Zoo is also an option, along with
the abundant natural wildlife in this area. Other options
are The Greenway and Raptor Center where you can learn about
the local ecosystems and the rehabilitation of birds of prey.
The downtown sector has lovely Victorian architecture and
numerous museums including a children’s museum and art
center, a reconstructed fur trading post, art galleries and
the Union Avenue Historic District.
The largest event of the year is the two-week Colorado State
Fair, held in August. A month later is the Chile Festival,
where the hottest of chiles delight the tastebuds, and includes
music presented in outdoor venues.
