Located 136 miles southwest of Chicago, the
sister cities of Bloomington and Normal, Illinois are home
to Illinois State University (in Normal) and Illinois Wesleyan
University (in Bloomington). Bloomington was the birthplace
of the Illinois Republican Party in 1856, and was also the
hometown of Democratic Vice President Adlai E. Stevenson (1835-1914)
and his grandson, former Illinois Governor Adlai E. Stevenson
II (1900-1965).

on local politicians, early settlers, agriculture, and industry.
Ø David Davis Mansion (1872), a fine
example of Victorian architecture, with many features that
were considered luxuries at the time, such as indoor plumbing.
Ø Miller Park, where you can enjoy swimming,
fishing, and picnicking.
Ø Miller Park Zoo, which contains an
Australian area and a rain-forest area.
Ø The Apple Barn (309-963-5557), which
is the oldest commercial orchard in McLean County; they have
excellent cider and host special weekend events at various
times from July through December.
Ø Illinois State University Planetarium
(309-438-5007), where you can see sky shows and other astronomical
displays.
Ø Upper Limits (309-829-TALL), which
is one of the world's tallest indoor climbing facilities.
Ø And, Fairview Family Aquatic
Center (309-454-9555), which has waterslides, pools, and volleyball
courts.
