Physical
Therapy, Occupational Therapy, and Speech TherapyJobs in
Narrangasett , Rhode Island
Purchased from the Narragansett Indians in
1675, tourism is an important industry in Narrangasett. More
than a dozen large hotels were built between 1888 and 1920,
making it an elegant summer resort destination. The most prominent
landmark was the Narrangasett Casino that covered one square
block. The casino was destroyed in a devastating fire in 1900,
leaving towers and a covered promenade that served as an entrance,
and are still standing today. All of the hotels were destroyed
as well; they were of wood construction.
Narrangasett is still a resort community and
a pleasure - it has all the amenities of year-round living.
There are state beaches with some of the country’s best
surfing, fishing, cottages and motels, camping, a national
wildlife refuge, Point Judith Lighthouse, an octagonal brick
lighthouse erected in 1816, the Coast Guard House Restaurant,
and many other historical buildings and artifacts for exploring
and inspecting.
Also in Narrangasett is the world-renowned URI
Graduate School of Oceanography.
