The Miami Beaches are located on barrier islands east of the city of Miami, and are some of the most diverse communities in the United States. The beaches stretch along almost the entire length of Miami-Dade County. Popular sites there are the Miami Seaquarium, the Museum of Science, Parrot Jungle, and of course, the beautiful and elite South Beach. This is famous for the exotic (and not inexpensive!) nightlife, which is well-known to celebrities, as well as other visitors. Located here is the Gianni Versace home, where his 1997 murder still draws onlookers who bring flowers to leave outside the gates. Miami also hosts many festivals and carnivals, featuring Latin singers, dancers, and Spanish/Cuban heritage.
