located on the shores of a river leading to the nation's unexplored
wilderness and south of the Cumberland Gap, the original point
of passage though the rugged Appalachian Mountains. It was
a natural stopping point on the trail linking the Eastern
United States with the pioneer territory being tamed by colorful
and legendary figures. During those historic decades of the
Old Great Stage Coach Road, the three-story Netherland Inn
was at the heart of much of the town's activity and prosperity.
It served as an inn and tavern for travelers passing through
in stagecoaches, mail coaches, ox-carts, and river vessels
and played host to three U.S. presidents. The tavern and guest
rooms, furnished much as they were 150 years ago, are open
to the public for tours. And finally, the Warrior's Path State
