Jackson Hole, Wyoming
Jackson Hole is a wonderful destination for
people who enjoy the outdoors and appreciate natural and artistic
beauty. The arts scene in Jackson Hole places it among the
finest small art towns across America, and the nearly limitless
supply of recreational opportunities ensure that every member
of your family has something to do. On the arts front, the
small town of Jackson has more than 30 galleries that display
a vast array of artistry, from traditional western works to
contemporary pieces. Photography and painting are among the
most prevalent art forms, but sculpting, particularly bronze
work, is also commonly seen in Jackson’s many galleries.
The National Museum of Wildlife Art, founded in 1987, is home
to the nation’s premier public collection of fine art
devoted to wildlife. In 1994 the National Museum of Wildlife
Art moved to its current location in a world-class facility
located on a butte overlooking the National Elk Refuge –
the sandstone structure is a wonderful compliment to the surrounding
terrain. Its vantage point provides incredible views of the
mountain known as Sleeping Indian as well as wildlife in both
winter and summer. Year-round activities are offered for adults
and children centering on the art in the museum and artists
in the community as well as traveling film festivals and musicians.
