Drayton, North Dakota

Drayton is located on the Red River of the North, 30 miles south of the Canadian border and 45 miles north of Grand Forks ND. There are some great things to do in Drayton like visiting Schumacher Park. It is located in the heart of the city and provides swimming, a public memorial honoring veterans, a playground, an adjacent golf course, tennis, a campground, softball/baseball diamond, and a picnic area with restrooms. Drayton’s crisp wintertime temperatures also allowed for unfailingly good snowmobiling conditions all winter long. Casual snowmobilers enjoy their machines daily, with prime riding areas readily accessible from any part of town. Serious sledders can access the area’s many miles of groomed trails by jumping on the trail that passes right through the heart of Drayton. The Northeast Trail System, better known as the Pembina Gorge Trail, is located in the northeast corner of the state. This trail system has 490 miles of groomed trails. The Gorge itself is a 'must see' natural phenomenon. This system ties into the Canadian trail at 4 major points and it also ties to two major Minnesota trails. This trail offers miles of riding and it usually has very good snow. This trail also ties into the Red River System which will offer another 365 miles of groomed stuff to ride. Be sure to check local maps for the city routes.
Drayton is home to North Dakota’s oldest curling organization, founded in 1901 as Dacotah Curling Club. Curling quickly became a popular pastime here during winter months when travel became more difficult, farm activity slowed, and people sought opportunities to socialize and exercise. The sport of curling is very much woven into the history of the Drayton area. Curling is a lifelong recreational and athletic sport enjoyed by people of all ages. It is a game of skill and traditions, dictated by a strong code of fair play and courtesy. A curler delights in a shot well-executed—even by the opponent—and plays to win in an environment of sportsmanship and good cheer.
