Physical
Therapy, Occupational Therapy, and Speech TherapyJobs in
Concord, New Hampshire
It was Concord’s central location that
led to its designation as the Capital of New Hampshire in
1808. The political and financial center of the state, Concord
is located on the Merrimack River and hosts a population of
36,000. The State House, complete with gilded dome, was completed
in 1819 and remains the focal point of downtown Concord. The
State House was constructed of local granite, which was quarried
by the inmates of the New Hampshire State Prison. Remodeled
twice, the current State House remains the only state capital
whose legislature still sits in its original chambers.
The railroad arrived in Concord in 1842 and doubled its current
population. In the late 19th century, Concord was the largest
and most important rail center north of Boston. Declining
rail service after 1920 led to the demolition of the Concord
Station in 1960, to be replaced by a shopping center. If you
need to step back into time, then plan to spend the day at
Canterbury Shaker Village. Guided tours of twenty-four original
buildings, will introduce visitors to the customs, inventions,
furniture, architecture and values of the Shaker way of life.
Or zoom ahead into space at the Christa McAuliffe Planetarium,
named after the first teacher in space. Take in a show at
the Capital Center for the Arts or the Concord Community Auditorium
or absorb the local history at the Museum of New Hampshire
History. But if it’s life in the fast lane you need,
then drive a quick 15 minutes to the New Hampshire International
Speedway. Be sure not to speed home though, you will miss
the fabulous fall foliage or the gorgeous mountain views in
springtime!
