Auburn the loveliest village on the Plains and home of Auburn University, Alabama's largest university. Feels like a larger city, but with the amenities of smaller town life; friendly townspeople, helpful neighbors, ease of movement from one part of town to the other; a feeling of community and sense of security. Downtown Auburn is the focal point of the community. This is a lively, thriving retail area with many shops, restaurants, quaint coffee shops, unique bookstore, and banks. Several apartment buildings are located downtown, providing housing for both students and professionals. Throughout the year, Auburn offers a variety of entertaining events, cultural activities and educational opportunities including exhibits, sports, concerts, recreational events, historical landmarks, tours of Auburn University, theatrical presentations and shopping opportunities. Auburn certainly has something for everyone. Even in a short visit, it soon becomes apparent that the community creates a friendly spirit that can only be summed up as "Auburn." The University provides year-round sports entertainment, plus dozens of lectures, art shows, interesting speakers, and performances by the Auburn Symphony Orchestra. There are also a number of museums located throughout the area and region. Recreation facilities include 15 parks, two public golf courses, 20 tennis courts, swimming pools, municipal stadium, etc. A fishing lake is jointly owned and operated by the cities of Auburn and Opelika. Chewacla State Park, which is adjacent to Auburn, offers 690 acres of park land with cottages, camping, picnicking, swimming, boating and hiking. Have a great time eating at some Auburn's own restaurants like Auburn City Limits, Inc, Chappy's Deli and one of the students favorites Olde Auburn Ale House Brewery and Restaurant. The Auburn City Fest is located Kiesel Park in April where many people enjoy spectacular scenery, exceptional musical entertainment, fine, funky, and hip art in a casual, relaxing atmosphere. You can stretch out on the lawn and enjoy non-stop entertainment, or dance to the irresistible sounds, while savoring tasty treats from a variety of our food vendors.
