Physical
Therapy, Occupational Therapy, and Speech TherapyJobs in
Anniston, Alabama
Situated in a tree lined valley of the Appalachian
foothills, the City of Anniston is the commercial and industrial
center of Calhoun County. With a mild climate and four distinct
seasons, Anniston has plentiful outdoor recreational opportunities,
including bicycling, fishing, camping and golfing. Anniston’s
Michael Tucker Park currently serves as the southern terminus
of the Chief Ladiga Trail. The park was named in memory Dr.
Michael Tucker, a noted Anniston physician and long-time bicycle
enthusiast. Nestled within a pecan grove, the park offers
parking, a gazebo, a drinking fountain, and restroom facilities.
The Chief Ladiga Trail is Alabama’s first extended rails
to trails project. It extends over 33 miles and connects the
cities of Anniston, Weaver, Jacksonville, and Piedmont as
is travels through Calhoun and Cleburne Counties. The trail
provides a safe, non-motorized way to travel, exercise, and
relax while enjoying the outdoors. Streams, wetlands, forest,
farmlands, and mountains can be seen along this family oriented
pathway. The city of Anniston is rich with historical landmarks
waiting to be explored! They include Zinn Park which was used
for baseball and recreation. In 1904, the famous Tyrus "Ty"
Raymond Cobb played a season at Zinn Park. Today we have the
Martin Luther King, Jr. pavillion in the park. Many local
events are held in the park. Another great spot is The Anniston
Inn that is a marvelous example of Queen Anne architecture,
said to have been designed by Stanford White, a prominent
New York architect of the period, but it was John Moser of
Atlanta, GA, who devised the initial plans. Located almost
center of the city in the north end of what is now Zinn Park,
it formed a very significant element in the original town
plan. It is said to be the first hotel in the United States
to be lighted throughout with incandescent lights. The main
building with its elaborate porches, balconies and dormer
windows, grand staircase and hall was completely destroyed
by fire in the 1920's. Only the old kitchen (shown here),
which is of brick construction survived the devastating fire.
